Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a new university in the State of Western Australia. It was created in 1991, from an amalgamation of existing Colleges, which in turn grew out of a number of previous amalgamations and upgrades of earlier institutions. ECU is named after the social reformer and the first woman elected to an Australian parliament (West Australia).
ECU has two main campuses, in the far north of Perth City is the Joondalup campus, which is the admin centre, and the Mt Lawley campus, not too far from the Perth CBD. There are also smaller campuses in the State, plus various associated and online facilities. Enrolled are approximately twenty thousand students, approximately 20% of which are non-Australian students. There is a full range of faculties and courses. The University is affiliated with all the appropriate national and international bodies.
The Joondalup campus is well designed and modern in appearance. The buildings are functional, and come with the requisite aesthetic. The grounds are well laid out and maintained. There are lots of signs, aphoristic signs, plus recycling bins, battery recycling bins, non-recycling bins, first aid kits, de-fibulating kits, emergency assembly areas, and no-smoking signs. Entry to the grounds is unrestricted. The waymark location is Building #1, the Chancellery.
