A ceremony was held here in 1976 to commemorate this trees existence during the American Revolution and its role even before the founding of our country.
The tree was a landmark for the Delaware Indian trail before becoming a landmark along the Ft. Wayne Trace in the early 1800's. Some how it has survived lighting strikes, a tornado in 1922, earthquakes and fires. It's really a site to behold yet it just sits beside an ordinary home in Orestes Indiana.
The plaque is placed and documented by the National Aborists Association and the International Society of Aboriculture.
