Long Description:
John Henry was a 19th century railroad steel driver who was very well known for beating a steam-driven hammer in a one-on-one contest. This marker is in a roadside pull-over along WV SR 3 & SR 12 near the town of Talcott. Continuing a short distance eastbound along the road will lead to an entrance to the mile-long Great Bend Tunnel where there is a monument to John Henry.
