If you like fishing and desert camping in addition to watching trains, then this may be the ideal place for you (I can't guarantee good fishing). Come out here during cooler months (the Hinges of Hades spend their summer here to cool off) and camp in a fairly nicely appointed campground maintained by the Bureau of Land Management. You are on the banks of the Mojave River, which always seems to have some water at this location (fish?, maybe). It's a busy mainline being the only route between Los Angeles, Barstow, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City. There is plenty of parking just about anywhere to take photographs or watch the trains go by.
