Built around 1890, this two and one-half story Queen Anne was originally located at 1118 Oak Street SE. It was built for John G. West and family, parents of future Oregon Governor Oswald West. By the mid-1890s the house was sold to C.M. Beak and in 1898 it was purchased by Mrs. A. Klein. Mr. Klein was a traveling salesman and the Kleins lived there into the 1920s. In 1926, Epsilon Delta Mu, a fraternity with a newly formed chapter at Willamette University, purchased the house. in the 1930s it again became a private residence.
When Salem Hospital began an expansion project in the 1990s, the house was slated for demolition. It was saved when a private buyer moved the house to its current location. According to the Oregon Historic Sites Database, it is divided into six living units.
