The Malone Telegram was first published on Saturday, Dec. 9, 1905 by Charles M. Redfield. Previously The Malone Evening Telegram, the newspaper changed to its current moniker shortly after being purchased by the Johnson family of newspapers in 1988. In 2001 the newspaper transitioned further from an afternoon paper to a morning edition.
Owned by the Johnson Newspaper Corporation, the parent company of the Watertown Daily Times, The Telegram is a member of the Northern New York Newsroom, which includes several reporters from 6 newspapers between Canton and Malone.
Still based in downtown Malone, the newspaper is produced at its 469 E. Main St. location(inside the Key Bank building) and printed at the company's centralized state of the art printing plant in Massena.
The Malone Telegram proudly serves the townships and residents of northern Franklin County New York, providing daily publication with a paid daily subscriber base of 6,000, and daily readership totaling over 15,000.
