It is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
At this point the milestone is 90.25 miles from the start at Leeds and 37 miles from the port of Liverpool.
The milestone is quite distressed and the Leeds distance plate is broken and the distance difficult to read. The word LEEDS has been painted onto the area where the plate is missing.
