The two-way plow increased the efficiency of the plowing operation by a considerable margin. Instead of having to return back to the starting point at the opposite side of the field, the plowshare in use was raised, the plow turned 180 degrees, the opposite plowshare dropped into position, and the field plowed in the opposite direction but the soil always being turned in the same direction. The operator's handles are canted forward so that they are in convenient reach of the tractor operator.
