This peace pole stands outside St. John’s Church on Main Street. Its four sides include the words: (1) May Peace Prevail on Earth, (2) Puisse la Paix regner dans la monde (French), (3) Mah Noh Tah Bison Tam Got-Emah Ahkeeng Kognik (Ojibway), (4) May Peace be in our Homes and Communities. In 1922 St. John’s Church was organized as a mission church for the Ojibway peoples; the French language was included on the pole because of their history with the 1792 French fur trading post.
