This historical plaque is located at the end of Memorial Drive and marks the location of a pioneer township that was established before neighboring Linkville (renamed Klamath Falls in the early 1880s).

The plaque reads:

MERGANSER

PIONEER VILLAGE FOUNDED IN 1870. A RIVAL TOWN OF LINKVILLE AND THE FIRST PLATTED IN KLAMATH COUNTY. NAMED AFTER THE MERGANSER DUCKS ON KLAMATH RIVER. A BRIDGE-CROSSING MADE IT AN IMPORTANT TRADE ROUTE. THE TOWN SERVED AS A SETTLER DEFENSE RENDEZVOUS DURING THE 1872-73 MODOC WAR. DECLINED IN THE 1880'S.
