Parc des Galets is located in the garden near the Parc de la Pointe-du-Buisson.
Parc des Galets is a fossils exhibition and Parc de la Pointe-du-Buisson is an archeological site.
The Hans J. Hofmann Hall, inaugurated in October, 2009 is hosting a permanent exhibition about the Cambrian paleontology. Fossil traces that are exposed have more than 500 million years and are probably among the largest traces of invertebrates ever discovered. Come see these fossil traces and learn more about the science that is often confused with archaeology.
Paleontologist Pierre Groulx discovered a fossil of a Climactichnites 5,000 million years old and that was 35cm in diameter in that town. The mollusk has the size of a hub cap, making it the largest on earth.
This souvenir was found in a channel built to allow fish to go around the Beauharnois water-electric dam, explains Chantal Cyr, in charge of entertainment at the Melocheville Pointe-du-Buisson Archeological Complex. Patrimoine Canada will give them an aid of "a few hundred thousand dollars" to create an area where the fossil could be preserved.
You can also see some Protichnites and Ripple marks displayed.
You have to pay 9.75$ to visit the archeological site but you can visite the fossils garden for free.
