Wax or wane, the popularity of roller skating has seemed to make little difference to this place, as they have been entertaining the populace for over 50 years at this location. The business was established in 1951 by Pat and Evelyn Pattison. It has since been sold twice, both times to family members, keeping it a
family affair. They have fended off lucrative offers for the land by developers wishing to bulldoze the building and build houses.
They
open some days as early as 8 AM, but the norm is a 1 PM opening, with skating continuing until 9 or 10 PM. There is a pro shop in-house which offers rentals and lessons. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays they are available to host skating parties for groups of almost any size.
Admission is variable, depending both on the day and the time of day, but averages about $6.00, with skate rental adding $1.00 to $5.00 to the tab.
We visited on a weekday afternoon and found at least 50 or so skaters enjoying themselves, suggesting that this place is unlikely to fold any time soon.
