EN: The government building is located at the end Rathausstrasse. The monumental three-story building dominates the north-west entrance to the old town.
At this location there was formerly a city castle which was first mentioned in 1438 and served as office building from 1739. In 1779 the house was rebuilt according to the plans of the famous architect Samuel Werenfels. After the separation from Basel-Stadt, it became the government building in the new capital of the canton and in 1834 it was heightened with the new parliament hall, the architect of the renovation was J.J. Begle. In 1850 there was an extension to the west and in 1894 an annex in the east was added.
DE: Das Regierungsgebäude befindet sich am Abschluss der Rathausstrasse. Der monumentale dreistöckige Bau dominiert den Nordwesteingang zur Altstadt.
An dieser Stelle befand sich früher eine Stadtburg, die 1438 erstmals erwähnt wurde und ab 1739 als Amtsgebäude diente. 1779 wurde das Haus nach Plänen des bekannten Architekten Samuel Werenfels neu erbaut. Nach der Kantonstrennung wurde das Haus zum Regierungsgebäude in der neuen Kantonshauptstadt und 1834 um den neuen Landratssaal aufgestockt; der Architekt des Umbaus war J.J. Begle. 1850 erfolgte eine Erweiterung nach Westen und 1894 ein Anbau an der Ostseite.
