Underwood's has been serving up heavenly family-style food here since 1946. Their barbecue is justifiably famous, as are their other Texas staples: Fried chicken and chicken fried steak.

Mama Blaster's Daddy Frank LOVED Underwood's Bar-B-Q. Dad and I would drive 130 miles from Fort Worth just for lunch here. It was always fun to road trip with Dad :)
Underwood's is a classic Texas family-style restaurant business that has been in existence in one form or another for almost 80 years (as of 2013).
Begun by father M. E. Underwood in the 1930s, the Underwood's Bar-B-Q business grew as each son reached adulthood and joined the enterprise. At one point all 8 brothers were in the business, and together they owned and operated Underwood's restaurants in cities across the state. As the 8 Underwood brothers retired, their stores closed.
When the 3rd generation of Underwoods came into the family business, they opened a store together in Waco. Later they closed that store and came back to Brownwood to operate the original (and still the best) Underwoods Bar-B-Q restaurant.

Blasterz eat here every time we are in Brownwood. The brisket is tender and always juicy, the ribs hearty and smoky, beans nice and peppery, and the peach cobbler -- TO DIE FOR.
