Idaho's Bicentennial Wagon
In 1975, this wagon joined 49 other state wagons from across the country in a pilgrimage to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania to celebrate America's Bicentennial.
Prior to leaving for Valley Forge, the wagon visited schools, communities and parks throughout Idaho.
The wagon followed the Oregon Trail in reverse, with other Pacific Northwest wagons, wintering at Fort Laramie, Wyoming and arriving near Independence, Missouri in May of 1976. The pilgrimage then headed to its final destination, arriving July 4, 1976.
After camping at Valley Forge for two months, the wagon was returned to Idaho to be cared for by the Department of Parks and Recreation, the original sponsor of the Idaho Bicentennial Wagon.
