In Peoria, near Riverfront Park, is the Contemporary Art Center.
The center is located in a brick building near the old railroad depot that is now a restaurant, along Water Street and near the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
There are at least two entrances. We entered on the southwestern side, where there is an abstract sculpture by cofounder of the center, Preston Jackson. The entrance leads you into a common area where there are several doors. There is one to the sales shop where you can buy works of art and other things. There is one for the Rhythm Kitchen - a cafe-like operation that has a Louisiana theme and has live performances regularly. Then access to other areas including studios.
The most well known artist at the center is Preston Jackson, who is a painter and sculptor and co-founder of the center. He also has a studio in nearby Bartonville. Other artists with studios at the CAC at the time of this submission include:
- William Bulter: painter
- Elizabeth Davis: multimedia
- Doug Goessman: printer, painter
- Julie Harkless: painter
- Larry Hendricks: photographer, painter
- Janet Keturi: painter, drawer
- Richard Kirchgessner: sculptor
- Adam Mass: painter
- Joy Johannes-Miller: painter
- Clark Rians: painter, drawer
- Tom Sheehan: sculptor
- Patricia Whalen-Keck
Classes are also offered at the center by member and resident artists.
