In 1839 Anton Sinkel opened his "Winkel van Sinkel" here at Oudegracht 158. It became the first Dutch warehouse: a place where one could buy a variety of products.
Nowadays a grand cafe is located in the characteristic building.
A sign at the building (see picture) reads: "eerste warenhuis van Nederland" (underlined with red) which means: first Dutch warehouse.
