From 'Pit to Port' Designed and constructed by John Clinch, 1934 - 2001, and finished by Jon Buck in 2005 located at Roath dock, the bronze sculpture celebrates the link between the Port of Cardiff and the Coal Mine Workers in the Welsh Valleys.

Pit to Port - Sculpture is located in Roath Basin and celebrates Cardiff Bay’s heritage as one of the world’s most important coal exporting ports and its links to the Coal Miners. A tribute to the South Wales coal mine workers, that made Cardiff so rich.
“Pit to Port”. This sculpture features an over life size coal miner, leaning against a dram which contains a pit winding wheel, smoking factory chimney and a ship. The statue clearly demonstrate the cycle of the coal industry, which the Cardiff docklands were originally well known for. The statue is on the corner of Britannia Quay, Roath Dock, Cardiff Bay, Wales.
