Built of brick, with three large doors, this station is somewhat different in appearance from the norm. As well, it has large, bold lettering on the front advertising its nature. This station was chosen as the site of
Banner of Service, a 911 memorial created by local artists Hazen Audel and Robert Sevilla Naudon in 2007.
The Spokane Fire Department is manned entirely by paid members, totalling over 300 at last count. The department doesn't seem to publish any information on their individual stations, so I've included their department description, below.
Operations Division
The Operations Division is the largest division within the Spokane Fire Department. It is responsible for emergency medical services, fire suppression, mitigating the consequences from disasters, and rescue activities. In addition to emergency work, Operations Division members provide a wide range of services to the community, including blood pressure screening, tours of fire stations and apparatus, and on-duty fire and life safety presentations within the community.
The Operations Division is comprised of four platoons within two Battalions of Firefighters who work an alternating schedule of 24-hour shifts. Each Battalion is supervised by a Battalion Chief who is responsible for the emergency and administrative activities of all members assigned to that Battalion. The Deputy Chief supervises the 9 Battalion Chiefs and oversees all activities within the Operations Division.
