Bij de vestiging van een zelfstandige parochie in 1559 werd gekozen voor de heilige Severinus, bisschop van Keulen, de parochie beschermheilige van Karken. Volgens de overlevering is dus 23 Oktober feest van de parochie van St. Severinus Karken.
