Tento pramen byl známý už v minulosti a podle historických podkladu prinášela jeho voda osvežení lidem pracujícím na poli, pocestným i procesím, která touto cestou chodila na pout až do vzdálených Krtin. Studánka poskytovala vodu i dríve fungujícímu podolskému pivovaru, ke kterému byla voda privádena dreveným potrubím uloženým v zemi. Dnes je voda ze studánky duležitá predevším pro volne žijící živocichy, kterí mají díky vytékající stružce a nekolika tunkám snadno dostupný zdroj vody. Vzhledem k prítomnosti koliformních bakterií pramen bohužel nevyhovuje nárokum na pitnou vodu. Mapování studánek a kvality jejich vody probehlo v rámci projektu Podolské studánky a prameny, který spolufinancoval Jihomoravský kraj z prostredku na podporu environmentální výchovy a vzdelávání.
