The Union Market was built in 1924 by the City of St. Louis. It was built on the site of an old public market dating to before the Civil War. The Union Market continuted operations until the 1980's. The market was the largest of the city markets occupying a full city block. The building had a parking garage on the upper levels and was one of the first large indoor parking facilities in St. Louis. The building has been renovated and converted into a hotel.
