This statue is example of figural cast iron from Blansko. Similar works can be found not only in many places in Czech Republic, but also abroad. It appears in castles, museums, squares, bridges, where it is usually installed in the monumental fountains, and other places. The quality and quantity of the production of figural cast iron was unrivalled in the Habsurg period, and met no competion within the Austrian Empire.
It was it in the autumn of 1821 that these sculptures were cast, a time which coincided with the arrival of the excellent metallurgical chemist and expert Karl von Reichenbach (1788-1869) from Stuttgart. The scientist put Blansko ironworks on the map, and thus allowing technically challenging sculptures to be cast from a single piece of cast iron. The Salm ironworks began to receive prestigious contracts from the State. In 1824 Blansko ironworks received the order to cast sculptures to decorate the Castle gate of Vienna and its surroundings.
