EN: The Deutschritterkapelle in Basel is located on Rittergasse southeast of the Cathedral. It dates back to the 13th century and was founded by the Order of the Teutonic Knights. At that time, it was close to a gate of the old city wall, but after the damages of the earthquake of 1356, the wall was enlarged and rebuilt a few hundred meters to the east. I could not find any reliable information on the later history of the chapel. It was most likely secularized in 1529 after the Reformation. In 1844 the chapel was modified by the well-known Neo-classical architect Melchior Berri. In the course of a renovation in the 1980s, the historic building structure was reactivated, so that today it is again recognizable as a late medieval chapel.
DE: Die Deutschritterkapelle in Basel befindet sich an der Rittergasse südostlich des Münsters. Sie stammt ursprünglich aus dem 13. Jahrhundert und wurde vom Deutschritterorden gegründet. Damals befand sie sich nahe bei einem Stadttor der alten Stadtmauer, die aber nach den Schäden des Erbebens von 1356 vergrössert und einige hundert Meter noch Osten neu erbaut wurde. Ich konnte keine zuverlässigen Angaben über die spätere Geschichte der Kapelle finden. Höchstwahrscheinlich wurde sie 1529 nach der Reformation säkularisiert. 1844 wurde die Kapelle von dem bekannten klassizistischen Architekten Melchior Berri umgebaut. Bei einem erneuten Umbau in den 1980er Jahren wurde die historische Bausubstanz reaktiviert, so dass sie heute wieder als spätmittelalterliche Kapelle erkennbar ist.
