On the cairn under the marker is indicated that this park opened in 1925 as a children's playground. This is true, as on June 28th of 1922 a referendum was held asking the ratepayers of Cranbrook their opinions on the proposed park. The vote was 222 to 88 in favor of the park and playground and a bylaw approving the park was passed forthwith.
It was the Rotarians who were instrumental in having the bylaw placed before the people and who did much of the work and the fundraising for the park. They have since added things such as a pavilion, a spray park for the kids and recently added new playground equipment.
Right downtown, near the post office and city hall, this is a much used park. This is the park in which the city placed their BC Spirit square.
