Located in one of the hangers at the Palm Springs Air Museum is a replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There's a placard next to this replica that reads:
"PROJECT FALLEN HERO"
TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER"Desert Hot Springs "Project Fallen Hero, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier", started with an idea and a dream from members of the community and the Community and Cultural Affairs Commission, to build the replica of this famous Memorial to Honor those Fallen Heroes who had passed not from any specific War, but from all Wars. It was decided that this Memorial would be special, not only being built, but that it would be an art piece painted by a local artist. Desert Hot Springs Donations of supplies and funds made this Memorial what it is today: And art piece. The project started in August of 2012 and was completed in March of 2013."
The tomb itself has an inscription on one side that reads:
HERE RESTS IN
HONORED GLORY
AN AMERICAN
SOLDIER
KNOWN BUT TO GOD
*NOTE* I was told by volunteer staff that many planes and historical items often move around inside the hangers and outside on the tarmac, BUT they always stay within the museum, unless they are part of a visiting exhibition. Waymarkers should keep this in mind when searching for a particular waymark that I or someone else has posted on Waymarking.com. If, by chance, you cannot locate a particular waymark within the museum, please let me know and I'll contact the staff and inquire to its whereabouts. Thanks.
