In Newton, off Commonwealth Avenue, is this memorial dedicated to POW/MIA soldiers at Newton City Hall.
Newton City Hall is located in a triangular plot of land bounded by Commonwealth Avenue, Homer Street, and Walnut Street. The west entrance has a driveway from Commonwealth Avenue that ends with a traffic circle in front of it. The monument is on one side of the traffic circle opposite the entrance.
The traffic circle is made of red granite and is about five feet tall. It has a blunt point at the top, and is much taller than wide. The face is polished, with etched symbols and text on it. The largest is the POW/MIA logo design near the top, and the words "You are not forgotten" below it. On the left is the Newton seal of the city. On the right is the logo for the Elks fraternity. Below that are the following words:
"Dedicated by the B. P. O. Elks Newton Lodge #1327 and concerned friends in memory of all our veterans who proudly served."
Surrounding this monument are tall cedar bushes. If you look behind the monument there is a deeply engraved designed that includes a sword (Excalibur?). Below that is the year 1990.
