Located at the Rancho Mirage Public Library is a lifelike statue of George Montgomery who was a former actor/artist/collector. There is a plaque located in front of the statue that reads:
"GEORGE MONTGOMERY: RIDER OF THE PURPLE SAGE"
Sculpture started by Actor/Artist/Collector George Montgomery before his death December 12, 2000
Completed 2003 by Artist Gary Schildr & Gateway to Bronze Foundry
The sculpture also has an inscription on the base that says the same information. This likeness of George Montgomery depicts him in western wear and holding his saddle and looking like a scene taken from one of the many Western movies he acted in in the 1940s and 1950s.
