The Citizens Hall of Fame was established in 1986 by the Winnipeg Real Estate Board to honour Winnipeggers who have made outstanding contributions to Winnipeg's quality of life.
Each inductee into the Citizens Hall of Fame is honoured with a commissioned bronze bust. At first, the Hall of Fame was temporarily located indoors on the second floor of Winnipeg City Hall. It then was relocated outdoors to the Assiniboine Riverwalk however problems with flooding and vandalism have forced the abandonment of that location. The Citizens Hall of Fame Committee then formalized this permanent outdoor site at Assiniboine Park.
There are now 40 inductees into the Citizens Hall of Fame and their busts line the roadway & walkway for about 250 metres.
