Location: The official address for McKellar Park is 539 Wavell Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario. This family-oriented, community park is located in the McKellar Park neighbourhood of western Ottawa; the neighbourhood, part of Ottawa’s Kitchissippi ward, gets that name because, in Ottawa, the real-estate designation for a neighbourhood often derives from the local parks. An official City of Ottawa sign for the park’s community building, bearing the 539 Wavell Avenue address, appears at the park’s main entrance on the western edge of the park.
Description: McKellar Park is medium-sized park, fronting onto Wavell Avenue, and backing onto Windermere Avenue. It is generally rectangular in shape, roughly 130 meters east to west, and 150 meters north to south. Unpaved parking for McKellar Park is on the north side of the McKellar Park Community Building.
McKellar Park contains a variety of facilities that make it a valuable asset to the neighbourhood. Besides housing the McKellar Park Community Building, the park contains picnic tables and benches, an asphalt basketball court, a pair of asphalt tennis courts, a wading pool, children’s play structures and swings, a ball field, and three soccer fields, one of them lighted. The park also contains some open grassy areas and some small treed portions. In the winter there is an ice rink suitable for youngsters learning to skate.
McKellar Park appears in the City of Ottawa's official database of municipal parks. (See link URL.) It appears as a City of Ottawa park on both Google Earth and Google Maps, with numerous images of the park from both Wavell Avenue and Windermere Avenue sides available via Google Maps’ Street View feature.
