Stuttgart is home to several international companies such as DaimlerChrysler, Porsche, and Bosche. It is one of the wealthiest cities in Germany and is economically growing.
The airport recently completed an expansion program which added an additional terminal (3). Terminal 1 is used exclusively for Lufthansa flights. Terminal 2 is used by GermanWings and charter flights and Terminal 3 is for all other commercial carriers.
There is currently a large construction project in the area to build a new exhibition center.
A suburban train (S-bahn) links the airport to the Stuttgart city center.
The only non-stop connection between Stuttgart and the U.S. is by taking Delta via Atlanta. You can fly non-stop between Stuttgart and most European countries. One non-stop connection which seems to be lacking is Stuttgart/Rome.
