The railway station of Wallisellen opened in 1856. In the early days it was an important junction between two major railway companies, Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen and Schweizerische Nordostbahn.
Since the line between Zürich and the airport opened that circumvents Wallisellen, it has lost a lot of its importance and long distance trains did not stop here anymore.
From 2007 to 2010 the station was rebuilt and has become a popular changing hub in the regional commuter traffic system. Today Wallisellen is a stop of the lines S8 and S14. From here the commercial zones north of Zürich can be accessed by tramway line 12 and several bus lines.
