Spirit Square, at the junction of Yew Street and Mackenzie Avenue, has an interesting history lesson, spread out over about 15 bronze plaques encircling a large open area of concrete and tile. They cover a wide array of local subjects.

NOTABLE NAMES

Many of the place names on the North Shore of Kamloops are reminiscent of people who played a significant role in the area. The Schuberts traveled with the Overlanders in 1862. Chief Tranquille played a vital role in the fur trade. Alexander McArthur was the first owner of McArthur Island. The Singh family were notable market gardeners and large property owners.
