Spirit Square, at the junction of Yew Street and Mackenzie Avenue, has an interesting history lesson, spread out over about 15 bronze plaques encircling a large open area of concrete and tile. They cover a wide array of local subjects.

Land Ownership

Willian Fortune (1868) and Charles Cooney (1869) both established ranches on Kamloops Lake at Tranquille.
The sheltered bay, with its fertile land, was a prime agricultural area. Fortune was a member of the Overlanders group who came west from Fort Garry (Winnipeg) in 1862 in search of gold.
