This little log house, built in 1865, would have been the first actual residence built at the mission, as the brothers had previously lived in the upper floor of the mission's chapel.

BROTHERS' HOUSE

This is the third original cedar dovetailed log building with a gable roof constructed in 1865 by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate Missionaries.

This building was used to accommodate the ordained priests and brothers of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (0M1).

The lay brothers worked on the farm, looking after the orchard, growing vegetables, and raising cattle. Father Richard OMI is credited with planting the first apple tree in the Okanagan Valley.

Over the years Brothers Surel, Vernay, Felix and Joseph are credited with looking after the vast 2,500 acre ranch that the Oblates acquired between 1860 and 1902.

Immaculate Conception Mission

Founded in 1859 by Father Charles Marie Pandosy, an Oblate Missiomary, to serve the Native Okanagan People, this was the first Roman Catholic Mission in the interior of British Columbia.

Within the Okanagan Valley the mission was the first permanent non-native settlement, site of the first school and place where the first fruit and vine crops were grown.

Restored in 1958. Designated a Provincial Heritage Site in 1983. Operated by the Okanagan Historical Society.
