Remorqueur - Tug - Sainte-Monique, Québec - Landlocked Boats on Waymarking.com

Je suis tombé sur ce remorqueur lors d'un voyage à vélo autour du Lac-Saint-Jean, au Québec. Le remorqueur est maintenant exposé en permanence sur la route du Quai. Il dispose d'une poulie à l'avant lui permettant de tirer les billots flottants sur les rivières et les lacs environnants. Ces billots étaient destinés aux usines de pâtes et papiers. Comme la pratique de billots flottants a cessé il y a déjà plusieurs années, le remorqueur n'était plus nécessaire et a fini par être exposé pour servir d'attrait touristique et sans doute pour rappeller aux gens le rôle clé qu'il a joué dans le soutien de l'économie locale.

I came across this tug boat while on a cycling trip around Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec. The tug boat is now on permanent display on Route du Quai, in the vicinity of Sainte-Monique. It has a pulley in the front allowing it to pull logs floating on the nearby rivers and lakes. These logs were destined to pulp and paper mills. As the practice of floating logs ceased quite a few years ago, the tug was no longer required and ended up being displayed as a tourist attraction and, more importantly, to remind people of the key role it played in support of the local economy.
