There is now a sizeable community on Anarchist Mountain and the necessity of a fire department's being located there became evident after the loss of three houses to a fire in 2003. The department is manned by approximately 26 paid-on-call volunteers and is funded by the community and by substantial donations by local residents, such as Adrian Erickson, the land developer who donated the department's 2007 Rosenbauer Custom 4×4 Pumper, valued at the time at approximately $450,000.00. It now serves as their front line pumper.
Anarchist Mountain Fire Department

Founded in 2003 after a devastating wildfire which destroyed three buildings on Anarchist Mountain, a group of residents came together and formed the Anarchist Mountain Firefighters Society.

In March of 2005 another devastating event occurred that affected the Department greatly. In March 2005 a break-in at the fire hall saw nearly $100,000.00 worth of gear and equipment stolen leaving the Department inadequately protected. Fortunately, with the assistance of our suppliers, the RCMP, and many Fire Departments around the Province, we were back in service in less than a week's time. Our members became stronger and it was only the beginning for the AMFD. After a successful referendum in July 2005 the AMFD became a Volunteer Fire Department under the Regional District Okanagan/Similkameen. In 2007, Local land developer Adrian Erickson made a donation of a new 2007 Rosenbauer Custom 4×4 Pumper, valued then at approx. $450,000.00. This apparatus replaced several outdated units and serves the AMFD as its primary engine.

In February 2011, Rob Burk assumed the role as Fire Chief and shortly afterwards the AMFD began expanding the services we provide to the community. Our first Jaws of Life was purchased along with rope gear using donations made to the Department.

The Anarchist Mountain Fire Department is a paid-on-call Department, funded by the residents of Area “A” ‘s Anarchist Mountain Fire Protection Area. The Department has recently relocated its Dispatching services from Penticton to the Kelowna Regional Fire Dispatch Centre, a state-of-the-art 24/7 Emergency Dispatch Centre which provides communication services to over 30 Fire Stations in the Okanagan and Similkameen Regions.

Today, the AMFD consists of approximately 26 members, including a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Administration Officer, Training Officer, four Captains and two Secretary Staff.
