George W. Lundeen from Loveland, Colorado is noted for his commercial figurative sculptures. Often several castings are made from the original mold. The sculpture is signed and numbered but not dated on the bench. The "Joy of Reading" is number 8 of 21.
A bronze sculpture depicts three figures, all reading. A woman seated on a bench. She is wearing a pony tail, blouse and dress. Her left leg crossed over her right and is reading from an open book. To her right is a young boy wearing a baseball cap. He has his right foot on the bench and his left foot dangles off the front of the bench. He is reading from a smaller open book that he holds with both hands. A young girl wearing a dress lies on her stomach over the woman's left knee and is looking at the same book the boy is reading. She has her knees on the bench and her legs held upward.
