"On Oct. 28 the United States Postal Service submitted a proposal to close Malta Bend Post Office.
USPS has estimated closing this office will save $1,106,782 throughout the next ten years. The postal service plans to maintain the community name and zip code for addressing purposes. If closed, retail services will be relocated 11.4 miles away to Marshall Post Office.
Malta Bend Post Office is part of a study designed to combat USPS's current financial crisis. Area Post Office Manager Cynthia Bolles attributed the crisis to the economic recession as well as alternative forms of communication.
USPS is evaluating 3,653 post offices nationally for closure. Locally, Blackburn, Miami, Gilliam and Arrow Rock post offices are also part of the study.
Bolles heard costumer questions and concerns at a hearing at Malta Bend School cafeteria on Oct. 4.
Now that the proposal has been posted, customers have until Dec. 29 to submit written comments to Sue Wandersee, 1720 Market St., Room 3000, St. Louis, MO 63155-9900.
Each proposal clearly states final decisions have not been made.
If USPS decides to close Malta Bend Post Office, consumers will have 30 days to appeal the decision." ~ The Marshall Democrat-News, 2014

To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
