EN: The Botanical Institute was founded in 1589, the first professor at the department was Caspar Bauhin (1560-1624). Until 1822, the Chair of Botany was combined with Anatomy: the summer was better suited for the plant science, the winter for the anatomy because the autopsied bodies decomposed slower.
Today's Botanical Institute is a two-story building north of the Spalentor on the site of a former cemetery. It was built in 1896 by Rudolf Linder, after plans by Viktor Flück. In the subsequent property the botanical garden was recreated, which was previously in various other places, most recently near Aeschentor.
DE: Das Botanische Institut wurde schon 1589 gegründet, der erste Professor auf dem Lehrstuhl war Caspar Bauhin (1560-1624). Bis 1822 war die Professur für Botanik mit der Anatomie kombiniert: der Sommer eignete sich besser für die Pflanzenkunde, der Winter für die Anatomie, die die obduzierten Leichen weniger schnell verwesten.
Das heutige Botanische Institut ist ein zweistöckiges Gebäude nördlich des Spalentors auf dem Gelände eines ehemaligen Friedhofs. Es wurde 1896 von Rudolf Linder nach Plänen von Viktor Flück errichtet. Auf dem anschliessenden Areal wurde der botanische Garten neu angelegt, der zuvor an verschiedenen anderen Orten angelegt war, zuletzt beim Aeschentor.
