EN: The old school house of Bottmingen was originally an inn, which was rebuilt in 1859/60 to a school after the previous school was burned down.
This two story building stands with the long side towards the street. The windows of the ground floor are higher than those on the first floor. The saddle roof has a turret with a clock on top.
The building is a late example of school buildings in the transition from early to late classicism. But the representative elements do not hide that the house originally served other purposes and originated from a modification.
DE: Das alte Schulhaus von Bottmingen war ursprünglich ein Wirtshaus, das 1859/60 zu einer Schule umgebaut wurde, nachdem die vorherige Schule niedergebrannt war.
Das zweistöckige Haus steht mit der Längsseite zur Strasse. Die Fenster des Erdgeschosses sind höher als jene im ersten Stock. Aus dem Satteldach befindet sich ein Dachreiter mit einer Uhr.
Der Bau ist ein spätes Beispiel für Schulhäuser im Übergang vom Früh- zum Spätklassizismus. Die repräsentativen Elemente verbergen aber nicht, dass es ursprünglich anderen Zwecken diente und aus einem Umbau hervorgegangen ist.
