Marker Text: The Cascade Range is an arc of volcanoes that extends for 775 from Lassen Peak in northern California to Meager Mountain in Canada. Although best known for the 30 prominent snow capped peaks, the range contains more than 3,400 volcanoes, including the more than 450 volcanic vents on the flanks of Newberry.
The Juan de Fuca plate plate plunges under the North American plate in the subduction zone off of the Oregon coast. This creates heat and pressure which generates the magma that supplies the eruptions of the Cascade Range.
