At the edge of the Dwingelderveld is standing a radio telescope . With a diameter of 25 meters was the telescope during commissioning in 1956, the largest movable radio telescope in the world.
ASTRON used the telescope for scientific research of the galaxy , the sun and the universe. ASTRON Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy , the Dutch research that enables discoveries in radio astronomy.
National monument
The telescope is now a national monument. Volunteers CAMRAS manage and maintain the telescope and use it to interest in technology and astronomy at encouraging young people and to make people acquainted with radio astronomy. The radio telescope has recently undergone a major restoration finished in april 2014.
