Cark and Cartmel station in on the 'Furness Line'. Nowadays a halt on First TransPennine Express line. Built in 1857, still in use today. Surrounding railway yards in light industrial use.

When the station was built, special waiting rooms were provided for the Duke of Devonshire and his guests, who lives at nearby stately home, Holker Hall.

Notice sign at entrance gateway still reads British Rail, a state monopoly long gone.
