The park is right beside the Pend Oreille River in Old Town, along Old Diamond Mill Road and immediately south of highway 2. The small park serves several purposes:
• It is the location of the Old Town Visitor Centre
• It is the location of nearly a dozen Idaho Historical Markers
• Its boat launch provides access to the Pend Oreille River
• It is a nice rest area, with rest rooms and picnic tables
The launch site is the southern access point for the Pend Oreille River Water Trail. The water trail extends southward about one mile to the Albeni Falls Dam and northward about 55 miles to the Box Canyon Dam at Ione, WA.
South Reach
The scenic south reach is the headwaters of the trail. The trail begins in Oldtown and travels through a number of communities offering close to home recreation and fitness opportunities. It continues flowing north past the Kalispel Indian Reservation, home to the original paddlers of the Pend Oreille River, until it reaches the Tacoma Creek Wildlife area.
