This wind harp is what really started my interest in these objects and is why I created this category. See the one that started it all if you are near the SF airport.

I do work around the country. On one of my trips to San Francisco I saw this odd object at the top of a hill near the airport. As I took a break for lunch one day I walked up to investigate. There were signs describing the object as a wind harp. I went to the top and was in awe of the great views of the bay. Suddenly, the wind picked up and the rusted steel structure came to life! It is amazing that a few steel I-beams can make such noise.

The artists were Lucia and Aristides Demetrios. The full name is the Cabot, Cabot and Forbes Tower and it was finished in 1967. It is placed 243 feet above sea level and is 94 feet high. It can be seen from the Bay Bridge, East Bay and from the San Francisco Airport. In 1996 it was acquired by the City of South San Francisco and was re-dedicated on March 28, 1997.
