EN: The train station of Oerlikon was opened in 1855. A definite station building was built in 1865 and completely renewed from 1912 to 1914. This building still exists today and has been expanded over the decades with various additional buildings. With the incorporation of Oerlikon in the city of Zürich in 1934, the name of the station has changed to Zürich Oerlikon.
The station is the eighth largest in Switzerland and a central hub of the Swiss railway network and the Zürich S-Bahn.
Zürich Oerlikon is served by eight S-Bahn lines and three remote connections. Since all trains from Zürich to the north and north-east pass this railway station, Oerlikon is a bottleneck that is currently being largely expanded. Until the end of 2015 eight instead of six tracks will be available to be used by four additional S-Bahn lines. Besides, there are also three tramway lines in front of the train station and several bus lines.
DE: Der Bahnhof von Oerlikon wurde 1855 eröffnet. Ein definitives Bahnhofsgebäude wurde 1865 erbaut und 1912 bis 1914 komplett erneuert. Diese Gebäude ist bis heute erhalten und wurde über die Jahrzehnte mit diversen Zusatzgebäuden erweitert. Mit der Eingemeindung Oerlikons 1934 wurde auch der Name des Bahnhofs in Zürich Oerlikon geändert.
Der Bahnhof ist der achtgrösste der Schweiz und ein zentraler Knotenpunkt des Schweizer Schienennetzes sowie der Zürcher S-Bahn.
Zürich Oerlikon wird von acht S-Bahnlinien und drei Fernverbindungen bedient. Da alle Züge von Zürich nach Norden und Nordosten den Bahnhof passieren, ist Oerlikon ein Nadelöhr, das gegenwärtig stark erweitert wird. Bis Ende 2015 werden acht statt sechs Gleise zur Verfügung stehen, die von vier zusätzlichen S-Bahnlinien genutzt werden. Ausserdem führen noch drei Tramlinien vor dem Bahnhof vorbei und diverse Buslinien.
