The Mount Morgan gold mine operated from 1882 to 1984 & in that time produced 225,000 Kgs of gold, 50,000 Kgs of silver & 360,000 tonnes of copper. What was once a tall mountain is now one of the largest artificial holes on earth, at 1000 metres long & 325 metres deep. Mount Morgan township has gone into decline, relying on tourism & distant mines for employment.
The Post Office building is not heritage listed. The LPO is open Monday to Friday only between 9 & 5.
