EN: The former main building of USEGO is located on the railway line to Wangen in the west of Olten.
The USEGO was founded in 1907 in Lucerne as a group purchasing organization of independent Swiss retailers. For logistical reasons, the company moved in 1910 to Olten and was officially renamed in "Union Schweizerische Einkaufsgesellschaft Olten" (Union Swiss purchasing company Olten), better known under the abbreviation USEGO. At first the company supplied its customers from a small warehouse at Olten station.
In, 1923 a big own business and warehouse building was built next to the railway line to Wangen. The architect was Fritz von Niederhäusern. 1931 the building was doubled to 140 meters in length. In addition to warehouses and offices, the headquarters also contained a coffee roaster, one of the main products of USEGO.
Until the late 1950s, the company was extremely profitable, but then a slow decline followed, initiated by a process of concentration in the retail trade and increased competition. 1967 for the first time losses were made. In 1980, only 2000 of the formerly more than 4000 members were left, and in 1990 only 1500 retailers were supplied. There have been several mergers and acquisitions. In 2005, finally the remnants of the company were liquidated.
The historic building of USEGO was renovated. Since 2014, the rooms are rented out. Today in the USEGO-building there are offices, shops and an office of the Cantonal Police.

Die USEGO wurde 1907 in Luzern als Einkaufsgemeinschaft der unabhängigen schweizer Einzelhändler gegründet. Aus logistischen gründen übersiedelte das Unternehmen 1910 nach Olten und wurde offiziell in "Union Schweizerische Einkaufsgesellschaft Olten" umbenannt, besser bekannt unter der Abkürzung USEGO. Zuerst belieferte die Gesellschaft ihre Kunden von einem kleinen Lagerhaus beim Bahnhof Olten.
1923 wurde ein eigenes grosses Geschäfts- und Lagerhaus direkt an der Eisenbahnlinie nach Wangen erbaut. Der Architekt war Fritz von Niederhäusern. 1931 wurde das Gebäude auf 140 Meter Länge verdoppelt. Neben Lagerhallen und Büros enthielt die Zentrale auch eine Kaffeerösterei, eines der wichtigsten Produkte von USEGO.
Bis in ausgehenden 1950er Jahre war das Unternehmen ausserordentlich profitabel, danach folgte ein langsamer Niedergang, ausgelöst durch eine Konzentrationsprozess im Einzelhandel und die verschärfte Konkurrenz. 1967 wurden erstmals Verluste geschrieben. Von den über 4000 Mitgliedern blieben 1980 nur noch 2000, 1990 wurden nur noch 1500 Einzelhändler beliefert. Es gab verschiedene Übernahmen und Fusionen. 2005 wurden die Reste des Unternehmens liquidiert.
Das historische Gebäude der USEGO wurde frisch renoviert. Seit 2014 werden die Räume vermietet. Heute befinden sich im USEGO-Gebäude Büros, Fachgeschäfte und ein Posten der Kantonspolizei.
