The Chisholm Community Center, named in honor of Joe Chisholm, a pioneer in minority youth and young adult activities, was constructed and dedicated in 1982. The Chisholm Community Center has had two major additions, a gymnasium completed in 1992, and an expanded game room in 1995.
The gymnasium was designated as the Willie Hill Gymnasium, in honor of a long time Parks and Recreation Department employee and the Center's first full-time Director.
The Community Room, when not scheduled for departmental activites, is made available for public use.
The Chisholm Center Playground was newly renovated in 2009. The playground challenges children on many levels at once. Its innovative spherical shape immerses kids in an environment where play is possible in every direction and dimension. Inventive play components beg to be explored both mentally and physically through countless new games. The playground creates a world where kids continually balance and counterbalance their bodies against the forces of gravity.
